Dove of Peace Lutheran Church's immensely popular free series of classical music concerts under
artistic director Eric Holtan kicks off its ninth season with a new year's concert featuring the music of
Mozart on Tuesday, January 1, 2:00 pm. The concert, featuring professional instrumentalists from
Tucson Chamber Artists and special guests will benefit Interfaith Community Services.
This annual new year's concert has reached capacity for the last three years. Attendees are
encouraged to arrive early for seating.
Among the musicians on the program are Emma Votapek and Ben Nisbet. Both are members of TSO,
TCA, and the Kingfisher String Quartet--Tucson's premier independent string quartet. On January 1,
Ms. Votapek, second violin in TSO and TCA, will demonstrate her command of the viola on Mozart's
"Hegelstatt Trio," K498, which also features Tucson favorite Kevin Justus, clarinet, and rising star
Elena Miraztchiyska, piano. Mr. Nisbet will join Ms. Miraztchiyaska for Mozart's Violin Sonata No. 21,
K304.
The second half of the concert will feature the Kingfisher String Quartet performing Mozart's String
Quartet No. 15 in D Minor, K421, which the composer dedicated to Josef Haydn.
The concert and annual series is paid for by the congregation as a gift to the community, and
concertgoers are invited to make a freewill contribution to a local, non-sectarian charity at each event.
On January 1, all of the contributions will go to Interfaith Community Services (ICS). Representing
many diverse faiths, ICS provides more than 45,000 services a year to over 24,000 disadvantaged
people, disabled individuals, and seniors.
