Illness and Wellness

“I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast.” (Psalm 22:14)

When we are sick in body or in spirit, we seek comfort, healing, and answers.  During such  times, the Christian Church strives to be God’s presence in our lives.  Sometimes it is a simple gesture, such as a hug or a note, that reminds us that we are not alone.  Sometimes it is more complex, as we seek God’s purpose when thinking about treatment options and facing difficult choices.

Dove of Peace also hopes to be an advocate for wellness.  The Christian Church has a stake in obtaining access to health care for all citizens.  We have a concern for the health of the food we eat, and for the preservation of God’s creation in all of its diversity.

A prayer for healing:

Almighty and merciful God, you are the only source of health and healing; you alone can bring calmness and peace.  Grant to us, your children, an awareness of your presence and a strong confidence in you.  In our pain, our weariness, and our anxiety, surround us with your care, protect us by your loving might, and permit us once more to enjoy health and strength and peace; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen.
